In regards to teaching, I work to understand students and their learning styles. Everyone learns differently and I aim to incorporate student needs and interests into sessions for effective understanding. I work to factor in their goals alongside this to ensure academic aims are being met.
My name is Maya Gustave. I aim to provide effective tutoring through collaboration, rapport building, goal setting, and routine sessions.
One student I recently worked with was a 4th grader. She was identified as having dyslexia, which affected the way in which she grasped reading comprehension and writing competencies. Through rapport, I was able to understand her needs and interests. For example, writing was something she didn't particularly enjoy so I included free time writing and reading about cats, one of her interests, which gave her something to look forward to after completing her necessary work. Towards the end of our tutoring cycle, there was improvement shown on her reading and writing assessments.
