I begin by identifying what the student already understands and where they are struggling, then I adapt each session to those specific needs. I break difficult concepts into smaller, manageable steps and use examples, guided practice, and questions to check understanding. I encourage students to explain concepts back to me so I can identify any remaining gaps. My goal is not only to help students complete an assignment, but also to build the confidence and skills they need to work independently.
I am a bilingual French-English tutor and Economics student at Hunter College with experience providing one-on-one academic support to high school students in New York City. I specialize in French and academic support, and I use a patient, structured approach tailored to each student's learning needs and goals.
I worked one-on-one with a high school student who was struggling to understand assignments independently and needed additional academic support. I identified that the student benefited from having instructions broken down into smaller steps and from reviewing concepts through examples before working independently. During our sessions, I explained difficult concepts, guided the student through assignments, and then asked them to complete similar problems or tasks independently to check their understanding. Over time, the student became more confident, required less assistance to complete assignments, and was better able to explain their reasoning independently.
