I believe in instilling a growth mindset into all of my students. I know that every student is capable of reaching their goals with the correct type of instruction and a supportive tutor cheering them on. I consistently hold my students to high standards and adapt my instruction to best meet their needs.
Lydia is a Hamilton College graduate with 3–5 years of teaching experience, including international classroom work in Costa Rica. She specializes in algebra and advanced math for middle school students, with a teaching philosophy centered on growth mindset — holding students to high standards while giving them the consistent support to reach them.
In 2024, while I was living in Costa Rica, I tutored a seventh grade student named Max who attended a bilingual private school where he took courses taught in both English and Spanish. In order to pass seventh grade, he had to pass a final exam for his science in English course, a course where students learned English science vocabulary. Max struggled in this subject, and the first time he took the exam, he scored a 37. Through months of one on one tutoring with me, and working through the concepts that confused him, he raised his grade from a 37 to a 70 and passed seventh grade.
