My teaching philosophy is centered on creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing confidence in their abilities. I believe students learn best when lessons are engaging, individualized, and connected to their interests and strengths. As a tutor, I aim to meet each student where they are, adapt my approach to their learning style, and help them become more independent and confident learners.
I’m a recent Barnard College graduate with experience working with kids in schools, camps, and community programs. I specialize in working with elementary and middle school students, particularly with reading, writing, and social studies, and I’m patient and encouraging when helping students work through challenges and build confidence.
One student I worked with was very shy and initially hesitant to participate or ask for help. I made an effort to build a positive relationship with them, give them encouragement, and create opportunities for them to participate in ways that felt comfortable. Over time, they became more willing to engage, participate in activities, and communicate with me when they needed support. Seeing their confidence grow was especially rewarding and reinforced for me how important patience, encouragement, and individualized support can be.
