I make sure my student is well focused by using engaging activities and discussions that spark questions for better clarification. I start off with homework and reviewing mistakes from past tests, then work on the student's weak points to build a better foundation of their understanding. I believe practice and a helping hand can efficiently improve a student's learning experience.
I'm a Macaulay Honors student at City College with a strong math background, including a 5 on AP Calculus BC, and several years of peer tutoring experience. I start each session by reviewing homework and recent test mistakes, then focus on the specific gaps holding a student back, so they build a solid foundation and the confidence to tackle new material on their own.
I was teaching an underclassmen geometry throughout my time in the National Honors Society. She already had a bad head start at 40 percent in the class. We met up twice weekly after school and I would walk her through her homework assignment and teach her the material in depth. Eventually, she passed the class with an average of 85 and scored a 92 on the geometry regents.
